Our Last Day

Our Last Day

Looking at your picture

I miss the way you smile

I wish I could hear you laugh

It’s really been a while

I’d love to hug you once again

To hold you close to me

To tell you again how much you are loved

To hear you say you love me.

I’d give anything, ANYTHING

To hear that “knock knock” line

And every time you tell that joke

I’ll laugh like it’s the first time

I’ll never again get tired

Of holding you on my lap

And I’ll try to understand

When you’re “too big for a nap”

You don’t want green beans for dinner?

Let’s have mac and cheese instead!

And I promise I’ll always remember a story

When it’s time to tuck you into bed

We will always have dishes, laundry and homework

But I promise to make time to play

I will never again take for granted that we will always be together

From now on, we’re gonna live like today is our last day.

About Shirley Ann Washam

I am an extremely blessed, divorced mother of four AMAZING children. Above that, I am a child of God! I pray that He would use this blog to speak through me to those who are hurting and discouraged. My goal is to share whatever is given by our LORD to uplift and encourage those who, like me, are blessed beyond measure, but still sometimes find themselves struggling to find answers and need a little encouragement. If you are in need of encouragement, I pray that you find it here, in the words that He speaks through me.
